Maya opened the bag for her. “This is for you,” she said firmly. “Daddy bought it for me, but you need it more.” As the woman took the warm food, her fingers shaking with hunger, Maya did something no one expected. She reached out and took the woman’s icy, calloused hand into her own small, warm ones. She didn’t flinch at the dirt or the cold. She just squeezed.
